"Peapack-Gladstone is well known in equestrian circles as the home of the United States Equestrian Stables at Hamilton Farm. The small village of 5.9 square miles has about 2,100 people. There are many clubs and activities for its residents. Scouting is a popular activity in the borough, and the Happy Rockers Senior Citizen's Group provides many services and activities. Settled by the English and Dutch, the twin villages were part of Bedminister until 1912, when Peapack-Gladstone residents formed their own charter. Peapack is apparently from a dialect used by the Lenni Lenape Indians. A village named `Peapack' which means pond, is mentioned in a deed recording the sale by the Lenni Lenape Indians of a large tract of land to new settlers. Gladstone is named after former English Prime Minister Sir William Gladstone. Residents and those working in town like to spend lunch hour or Saturday morning at the Liberty Park complex, an idyllic lake setting with park benches across the street from the municipal building."
