"Located in the southwestern segment of Morris County, Washington Township is the county's most rapidly growing and most rural municipality. Farms and new residential subdivisions dot the rolling hills and valleys of famous Schooley's Mountain. Many picturesque hamlets found within the municipality still carry the descriptive names given them by early German settlers: Scrappy Corner, Pleasant Grove, Nestling Pines, and Springtown. Today, a major portion of the Township's residents live in the region of Long Valley, the site of the Township's largest shopping center. Although only about 20% developed, most of Washington Township's 28,000 acres is suitable for residential and commercial growth. Recent residential subdivisions have meant expansion for Washington's excellent education system and regional shopping facilities. Community growth has been stimulated by the proximity of the large corporate facilities within the region. The municipality has many attractive recreational facilities, including Camp Washington, a county park; Hacklebarney State Park; Schooley's Mountain and Musconetcong golf courses and Black, Raritan and Musconetcong rivers for sport fishing."
